Eight’s not enough

Regarding My Easy 8-Step Power Saver (NOW, October 8-14), I noticed Paul Terefenko’s list had a glaring omission.
He, among many others, fails to realize that energy and water resources are inextricably linked.
Municipalities require huge amounts of energy to pump and treat water – not to mention that about 20 per cent of the world’s electricity is hydroelectric.
Thus, any effort to conserve water also conserves energy.
Residential water-saving fixtures (such as dual-flush toilets) as well as behaviour changes (such as taking shorter showers) can lead to significant energy savings, too.
And, yes, renters are often limited by the fixtures we can replace, but we can certainly work to modify our behaviours.
Everything is connected in this ecosystem of ours. And when we throw something away, well, “away” is getting nearer….
